History of Japanese-Language Education at CBC
Tradition and trust of language teaching since 1948
Because of its predecessor’s founding in 1948, College of Business and Communication (CBC) boasts a long history as a pioneer in language education and a provider of educational content that has earned high praise from many professional fields.
The history of Japanese-language education involves the oldest school in Kanagawa prefecture, and CBC has been a major driving force in the field since establishing its Department of Japanese Language and Culture in 1987.
In April 2012, the Department of Business Japanese was established by CBC for foreign students who aim to work in Japan.

1948Kawasaki Citizens School is established with the approval of Kanagawa prefecture.

1950Mobile classroom opens at the bequest of government agencies and companies.

1959Ms. Kiku Shimomura becomes principal.
Name changes to Kawasaki Beigo School.

1964Olympics English conversation class opens.

1965Specified as a test center school by The Society for Testing English Proficiency.

1974Annex building is completed.
English education of NEC and Toshiba employees starts.

1982Board of Education and Research is established for English teachers.

Ms. Kazuko Fukabori is appointed principal.

1991PAL building building is completed.

1991 to 1995Provide Japanese education to construction trainees from Shenyang city who are being accepted by Kawasaki city as part of the 10-year anniversary of the Friendship City Agreement between the two cities.

2003Department of Japanese Language and Culture is renamed the Department of Japanese.
Department of Advanced Studies in Japanese Language and Culture is renamed the Department of Advanced Studies in Japanese.
Department of Japanese Education is established.
An international exchange is started with regional high schools and elementary schools in Kawasaki city.

2004Exchange activities are started with Yokohama National University students majoring in Japanese-language education.

2008/2009Best consecutive Japanese speech contest sponsored by National Institute of Japanese Language Education

2010New school building (current main building) completed

2011/2012Speech Contest Grand Prize is sponsored by The National Association of Colleges for Japanese-Language Education for two consecutive years.

2012Department of Business Japanese is established.

2014A Traditional Japanese-style tatami room is completed on the PAL building.
Business Japanese course is certified as an Applied Professional Postsecondary Course.

2017EJU preparation class is started.
